What’s in the Body Bag?: A Collection of Dark Fiction by the Dead Birds Writing Group

Imagine, if you will, coming across a post-it note with the chilling message, “Body outside in green bag – side entrance.” Would you drop it and run the other way? Or would you just have to know more? In this collection of nine stories, ten authors from the Dead Birds Writing Group dare to delve into the strange, the dark, the funny, and let’s face it, the off-kilter stories of the troubled characters who just don’t know when to leave a good body bag alone.

About the Dead Birds Writing Group

When Augsburg University’s MFA program needed a name for their student-run press, the professors challenged the students in the inaugural MFA cohort to come up with it.

After lots of coffee and pizza and arguing, we agreed on a name: Dead Birds Press.

Since the university’s mascot is an eagle, they turned down our name in no uncertain terms because, well, you can’t kill the school’s mascot. Ultimately, MFA Director Cass Dalglish iterated on our bird idea and came up with the final name, the Howling Bird Press.

However, the name Dead Bird Press had burrowed itself deeply in our hearts and we could not let the name fall to the wayside. So we formed the Dead Birds Writing Group. We are writers of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and screenplays, and we write science fiction, horror, magical realism, hyper realism, and everything in between.
